The shooting comes as state legislatures are debating whether the ban on weapons on campus. Those who claim the right to carry guns on campus argue that having a firearm protects the individual and the community and reduces the risk of an escalation of violence as Virginia Tech in 2007 where 32 students and teachers were killed.
Utah is the only state that authorizes the possession of the school, after declaring in 2004 that these 21 years of age may carry a concealed weapon permit to carry weapons. Twenty-six states, including Ohio, to ban weapons on campus, while 23 are silent on the subject, relying on their peers to influence policy, according to a gun control group called Gun Free Kids.
