New Scientist: What is wrong with the sun? - Sunspots come and go, but recently have been lost. Thanks for your efforts, we know that the number of sunspots rise and fall in cycles lasting about 11 years. For centuries, astronomers have recorded when these black spots on the solar surface, but just so you disappear again after a few days, weeks or months.
